Detroit at Work

One system for the city’s flexible work programs

The need

Detroit at Work runs youth internships and paid short-term work experiences across many employers and work sites. Staff described piecing each program together with a payroll company, separate insurance and a Salesforce database, and wanted everything to land in one central system.

What we proposed

A Detroit at Work–branded Stunio portal for flexible work experiences. It connects to their existing Salesforce system, so participant data flows into the database they already use.

Result Still in negotiation

2 days from first meeting to a tailored program and platform proposal

See it in action

“I've sat through a lot of these software pitches and I just gotta give you... I'm really interested in this and I think that this could solve a real need for us.”

“As far as next steps, I would like to get a second meeting set up... I've also just been brainstorming where we could dig up some funding.”

Kevin J. Naud, Director of Employer Engagement and Workforce Strategy, Detroit at Work

Every partner school’s job shadow students in one place

The need

Henry Ford’s Workforce Development team hosts high school students for job shadows. Each student needs an application, confidentiality agreement, background check, health records and photo ID, and the team was tracking all of it across spreadsheets, email and paper.

What we built

A group for each partner school, run by a school administrator Henry Ford invites. Schools add their own students, students complete Henry Ford’s forms and e-signatures in Stunio, and Henry Ford sees every student’s status in one view.

Job shadow matching without the spreadsheet

The need

Calvin’s Career Center has matched more than 110 students with about 60 employer hosts by hand, reading surveys and working through Excel. Matches could drag on for months: one meant to happen before Thanksgiving didn’t happen until spring.

What we designed

An automated job shadow workflow. Students sign up in the Stunio app and are matched to the best host for a coach to approve. They then book around the host’s availability, and a live dashboard tracks matches by coaching group.

Result

Replaces months of manual matching in Excel with one automated workflow. Students are matched to hosts, coaches approve each match, and every match is tracked live by coaching group.

See it in action

“It looks great and will help our coaching team streamline their work and enhance the student experience.”

Employer outreach a small career center can keep up with

The need

GVSU’s 16-person Career Center serves 23,000 students and about 1,000 employers a year. Employer contacts go stale, and staff have little time left for reaching new employers.

What we built

A shared employer list with a queue of new prospects, plus pre-filled email templates that send from staff members’ own inboxes. Invite links credit the college when an employer signs up. We built it with GVSU and our other West Michigan partner colleges.

Result

Gives a small career center one shared, up-to-date employer list and a steady queue of new prospects, with outreach sent in a few clicks from staff members’ own inboxes.

“Its going to be a win-win for college students and local employers.”

Cindy Brown, Employer Development Manager, Grand Valley State University

The right team, building at exponential speed, on a capital-efficient base.

Because we've built the right infrastructure and context base for our systems, a small team builds exponentially faster than the competition, and our pace of development keeps accelerating. Every dollar goes further.

We delivered Henry Ford's feature request in 9 days. A few months ago, before our AI-accelerated build process, the same build would have taken about 5 months.

“The level of output we're seeing from Tim and David is what you'd expect from a 100-person organization in big tech five years ago. The startups you're competing with can't do this in nine days.”

What our partners are saying

“I've dreamed for years of a way students could find flexible opportunities in experiential education, working shifts, working contracts, getting more exposure to our local employers big to small. Then Stunio came around.”

Troy Farley, Director, Career Center, Grand Valley State University

“It enables Henry Ford Health to customize, pilot, and test a centralized system to capture prospect interest and profile data, and to onboard, schedule, track, and report on students and apprentices across departments and locations.”

Brandon Everest, Co-Director, Experiential Learning Institute, Northwestern Michigan College

“Stunio collects all this fractional work experience and aggregates it into meaningful opportunities and data.”

Paul Doyle, Industry Advisory Board, GVSU

“I definitely see this aligning. … I feel like this would be a really great way to kind of incorporate [experiential learning].”

Erica O'Toole, Director, Career Development Center, Central Michigan University

“I've sat through a lot of these software pitches and … I'm interested in this and I think that this could solve a real need for us.”
